Flashback Friday (4)
Flashback Friday is a weekly (although recently I've been letting it slide...my bad) post that highlights a book that I liked when I was younger. You're welcome to join in- I'd love to read about your childhood favorites, or even books that you didn't enjoy so much.
This week I'm showcasing a book that I remember reading in late elementary school, and I absolutely hated it. Some may scowl at the fact that I really disliked this classic (which I'm sure is beloved by some), but I'm being honest. Anne of Green Gables was just not my cup of tea; one reason being (from what I remember) was that Anne talked SO MUCH. A very long-winded young lady. For some reason the way the book was written plucked my last nerve.
It was the only reading test that I ever failed. :(
Have any of you read Anne of Green gables? If so, what did you think?

I've read all 8 (I think?) of the Anne series and did enjoy all but one of them. I'm not sure if I would have been able to make it through the first book and, hence, the rest of the series, without having first watched the wonderful adaptation starring Megan Fallows from the 1980's. Watching the movie gives you a real non-annoying sense of Anne...and Gilbert is um, awesome?
Glad to see you're reading Bloody Jack! Hope you enjoy it!
I read Anne of Green Gables when I was seven or eight. I think I liked it. Of course, I didn't understand all of it at that age; if I read it again today, I'd probably get more out of it.
Finally, someone else who doesn't love this book (it's amazing how many people LOVE this series--including half my favorite authors). I don't hate it...but I usually read a book in a day and it took me three weeks to get through this one...
I agree with you...it's SO talky, and not a whole lot happens. It's not bad. It's just...dull. And I made the mistake of buying the whole series. So far I've only made it through 3 of them. 4 more to go. Ugh! But I bought them so I'm reading them!
Anyway, just wanted to say hi and that I just stumbled across your blog today. Really enjoyed it, so I will definitely be following. Thanks!
I loved the the Anne series when I was younger! I've always wanted to live In P.E island(4 and half hours drive). I know whatt you mean though, she did talk a lot!
I participate in a similar activity called Retro Friday Reviews, its so fun to write posts about old favorites.
I've never read the Anne of Green Gables series, I did see the movie once in 7th grade and wasn't a fan. I'll have to give the books a try, seems like a lot of girls love them.
Fun post!
Never read this book, I think the cover is sweet. :) and thank you for your honest opinion.
I love the 1980's movies with Megan Fallows, and I do love the books, but yes, Anne's talking sort of tires you out. :)
